Palworld Breeding Guide

Palworld breeding looks random until you understand the hidden number behind it. This guide explains CombiRank, formula exceptions, passive inheritance, and the shortest path from two parents to the child you want.

01

The CombiRank Breeding Formula

Every Pal has a hidden breeding-power value commonly called CombiRank. For a standard pair, the game combines both parent values, rounds the midpoint, and selects the eligible Pal whose rank is nearest to that target.

target rank=(parent A rank + parent B rank + 1) ÷ 2

If two candidates are equally close, the game's internal priority breaks the tie. That is why a simple visible average is not enough to reproduce every result without the candidate pool and priority data.

02

Special Combos Override the Formula

Some parent pairs have fixed offspring assigned directly by the game. These special combinations are checked before CombiRank, so their result can be very different from the normal midpoint.

Use the complete breeding-combo index to see every current override. A small number of pairs also change result according to parent gender; the calculator flags those cases when selected.

03

Species and Passive Skills Are Separate

Species result

Determined by the CombiRank formula or a special-combo override.

Passive inheritance

Rolled separately from the combined passive pool of both parents, with a chance for additional random passives.

See the passive-skill inheritance tables for the exact probabilities used by the current guide.

A Practical Breeding Workflow

  1. 1

    Choose the child

Open its Pal page and review every parent pair. The list places more accessible combinations first.

  2. 2

Check the parents you already own

Use the calculator to test two available Pals instantly instead of searching thousands of rows.

  3. 3

    Plan passive inheritance

Concentrate the passives you want on the parents and avoid carrying unnecessary passives into the shared pool.

  4. 4

    Keep the best offspring

Use a better child as the next parent when building a multi-generation chain toward your final combat or work Pal.

05

Legendary and Catch-Only Limits

Not every Pal belongs to the normal child candidate pool. Catch-only legendary Pals cannot be created through ordinary cross-breeding, even when a numerical average appears close to their CombiRank.

They can still be selected as parents and may be useful in chains that produce other high-tier children. Individual Pal pages label catch-only species and show what they produce as parents.

Breeding Guide FAQ

Q. How does breeding work in Palworld 1.0?

For most pairs, the game averages both parents' hidden CombiRank values and selects the eligible child closest to that target. Special combinations override this calculation.

Q. Does a lower CombiRank mean a stronger Pal?

Generally, lower CombiRank values belong to higher-tier breeding outcomes. CombiRank is a breeding value, however, not a direct combat score.

Q. Can legendary Pals be produced through normal breeding?

Catch-only legendary Pals cannot be produced by ordinary cross-breeding. They can still act as parents and may produce other children.

Q. Are passive skills controlled by CombiRank?

No. Species selection and passive inheritance are separate systems. CombiRank determines the species for standard pairs, while passives are inherited probabilistically from the parents' combined pool.
